SPLIT, Aug 22 (Hina) - The Independent Union and the Croatian
Federation of Unions (HUS) believe that the Croatian Government is
buying time in the Split-based company 'Diokom', whereas the third
active union in this firm - 'Samostalni Sindikat'- assessed
meetings with Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic as constructive
despite all other things.
Representatives of the aforementioned three unions on Tuesday
commented on Monday's meeting between Fizulic, representatives of
the Split-based company "Diokom", the current trustee in
bankruptcy, Jozo Malenica, and representatives of the three unions
active in this firm.
At the meeting they agreed that stocks should be offered on sale in
all 39 Diokom shops as of 26 August (Saturday). They also agreed
that a court expert be asked to assess the value of the real estate
of this company. The duty of the expert will be to estimate, by 1
September, the value of the premises that are not used for the
manufacturing, and subsequently a public invitation for bids for
the purchase should be announced in the media.
Unionist said they held that the money collected from the sale of
stocks in Diokom shops would not be enough for dismissal wages for
workers who would be laid off.
Diokom which is now undergoing a bankruptcy procedure employs over
2,300 workers.
Therefore the unionists urge the Government, as a majority owner in
the firm, to find funds for the redundancy cash.
Besides, a union leader stressed that the state which is the biggest
owner and the biggest creditor of the Diokom and which launched the
bankruptcy procedure, could annul the bankruptcy.
According to announcements, Minister Fizulic will continue with
regular contacts and meetings the aim of which would be to solve
problems of this big company.
On August 14 Croatian Economy Minister Fizulic visited the Diokom
company and then they agreed on such moves. On Monday (August 21)
they held their second meeting in Zagreb, and now Fizulic is
expected in Split next Monday again.
