Prosecutors drop proceedings against 2 men for assaults on reporter Miljus and businessman Galinec

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, July 5 (Hina) - The Zagreb County office of the Croatian Chief State Prosecutor has dropped criminal proceedings against Darko Dakic and Djordje Vuletic due to lack of evidence that they were involved in assassination attempts against reporter Dusan Miljus and businessman Josip Galinec, the prosecutorial authorities reported on Tuesday.

The prosecutorial county office thus gave up the investigation in this case after six months and requested the police to continue a crime investigation in a bid to collect possibly new and high-quality evidence relevant to these these cases.

Vuletic, a former policeman, and Dakic, were charged of having brutally beaten, together with an unidentified perpetrator, businessman Galinec outside the building housing the Economy Ministry in broad daylight in September 2008. Dakic was also suspected of having assaulted reporter Miljus in front of of a building where he lived in June that year. These assaults were treated as attempts on the lives of Miljus and Galinec.

Vuletic and Dakic, who were earlier this year released from custody where they had been kept for maximum six months for pre-trial proceedings, denied those allegations.

The prosecutorial authorities said that they had not collected enough evidence to issue indictments against the two men.
