ROVINJ, Aug 1 (Hina) - The Croatian People's Party (HNS), the
Liberal Party (LS) and the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) are
going to define a series of joint legal, political and economic
projects in the autumn.
According to an agreement the leaders of these three parties
achieved during a closed-door meeting in Rovinj on Wednesday, the
HNS, LS and IDS would work together on those projects.
"It is necessary to strengthen the civic option in Croatia as it
(...) has not been articulated as a political option," the
presidents of HNS, Vesna Pusic, LS, Zlatko Kramaric, and IDS, Ivan
Jakovcic, said today.
According to Kramaric, these three parties share almost identical
stands and believe the incumbent Croatian government, after
recently winning a confidence vote in the parliament, should now
embark on economic and social reforms more resolutely.
The LS and HNS are members of the five-party ruling coalition, while
the IDS was a member until recently, when its leadership decided to
leave the government due to a dispute over the Statute of Istria
County.
Asked by reporters about the possible come-back of the IDS to the
Ivica Racan Cabinet, Jakovcic admitted the Rovinj meeting had
considered such a possibility.
The presidents of the HNS and LS supported the possible return of
the IDS into the government. It can, however, happen only following
a real government reshuffle and after talks with Prime Minister
Ivica Racan, Jakovcic said. This former minister in charge of
Croatia's bids to enter the European Union refuted any possibility
of his return into the government.
Asked about relations between the LS and HNS, the latter's
president Pusic said she favoured more the concept of uniting into
one party, while Kramaric advocated a joint programme of the
parties.
Jakovcic said that with the set-up of the one civil option, the HNS,
LS, and IDS would gain more confidence from the electorate.
According to him, his party will continue supporting the further
decentralisation f Croatia.
