According to Ljajic, the reason for his long and successful evasion of justice could lie in the fact that a very small number of helpers had protected him.
Ljajic said that while on the run, Mladic had stayed in military facilities and in apartments in Belgrade, citing military installations at Strugari, Rajac and Krcmar near Valjevo. In 2002 he moved into a flat in Belgrade where he remained until December 2005.
In February 2006, Mladic, wanted by the UN tribunal in The Hague on genocide charges, moved to the village of Ljube near Sremska Mitrovica.
Ljajic would not reveal at which three locations Mladic had been hiding since 2006, citing the interests of the investigation.
