ZAGREB, July 19 (Hina) - Croatian Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic on Thursday withdrew on the government's behalf a final bill on privatisation following an assessment by the parliament's Committee on Legislation that some
regulations in the bill are contrary to the Constitution. Fizulic holds the Committee's assessment unfounded because the contentious regulations are part of the existing law on privatisation, but he said the government would nevertheless withdraw the bill from parliamentary procedure. on Thursday withdrew on the government's behalf a final bill on
privatisation following an assessment by the parliament's
Committee on Legislation that some regulations in the bill are
contrary to the Constitution.
Fizulic holds the Committee's assessment unfounded because the
contentious regulations are part of the existing law on
privatisation, but he said the government would nevertheless
withdraw the bill from parliamentary procedure.
This came as a surprise to many deputies and Damir Kajin of the
Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) told reporters the real reason
for the withdrawal of the bill was the land along the Adriatic
coast, a problem, he said, the IDS has been warning about for
months. The land belongs to units of local self-government but
attempts have been made to allocate the land to tourist companies
free of charge. Deputies of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and
Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) objected to the regulation which
allows the privatisation of institutions such as the Rudjer
Boskovic Institute and the clinical centre Rebro.
