forward, Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica told a news conference in Belgrade today. With the agreement, he said, a step forward has been made in the normalisation of relations and in the flow of people, goods, solving the issue of refugees and everything obstructing their return, as well as in the issue of minorities and their position in both countries. Kostunica said he did not agree with the assessment of the UN Mission chief in Kosovo, Hans Haekkerup, about their recent talks in Belgrade which, according to Haekkerup, were "fertile". Kostunica stressed that the UN mission chief remained firm in his views that the Kosovo constitutional frame does not need discussing.
BELGRADE, June 14 (Hina) - The agreement reached between Yugoslavia
and Croatia which I signed with Croatian President Stipe Mesic has
rendered the process of normalising relations between the two
countries to move significantly forward, Yugoslav President
Vojislav Kostunica told a news conference in Belgrade today.
With the agreement, he said, a step forward has been made in the
normalisation of relations and in the flow of people, goods,
solving the issue of refugees and everything obstructing their
return, as well as in the issue of minorities and their position in
both countries.
Kostunica said he did not agree with the assessment of the UN
Mission chief in Kosovo, Hans Haekkerup, about their recent talks
in Belgrade which, according to Haekkerup, were "fertile".
Kostunica stressed that the UN mission chief remained firm in his
views that the Kosovo constitutional frame does not need
discussing.
The Yugoslav president called on the Serbian army and police to
"cease the mutual accusations through media", stressing that all
contentious issues should be resolved responsibly through
communication.
Kostunica dismissed claims by the Serbian police that they stopped
the prosecution of certain army individuals who prevented the
arrest of Slobodan Milosevic, at his request.
He said all he did was to ask the army and police to refrain from
pubic conflicts and mutual accusations.
