STRESA, June 8 (Hina) - The presidents of 14 Central European states convened at the Lago Maggiore lake in Italy for an informal two-day meeting which should focus on the strengthening of the values of freedom and democracy and
Europe's cultural identity. The presidents of Central European countries gathered for the first time eight years ago, when they voiced hope that similar meetings would help the countries in question become closer. Croatian President Stipe Mesic will address the Italian meeting, as well as hold a series of bilateral talks, including with Yugoslav counterpart Vojislav Kostunica, who is attending such a meeting for the first time. As an introduction, Mesic and Kostunica had a brief chat in the lobby of a hotel in Stresa.(hina) ha sb
