Croatian diplomatic sources said last week Racan would present
Croatia's expectations to be included in the Membership Action Plan
(MAP), which includes the adjustment of standards and criteria with
NATO member countries in politics, economy, judiciary, security
and military.
According to Croatia's expectations, joining the MAP programme
should take place late this year. Currently, the programme includes
nine countries -- Albania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania,
Romania, Macedonia, Slovenia and Slovakia.
According to sources close to the Croatian government, after talks
with NATO Secretary General George Robertson, Racan will inform the
NATO Permanent Council of a progress Croatia has achieved in
interior reforms over the past year since it joined the Partnership
for Peace programme.
Undoubtedly, the talks will tackle security issues in Southeast
Europe, particularly in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
