ZAGREB, April 12 (Hina) - A recent raid into the Hercegovacka Banka
presents the material destruction of Bosnian Croats, and the
consequences of that action will be the destruction of the basis for
the survival of Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina, said the bank's
spokesman in Zagreb on Thursday.
"The financial and economic annihilation of Croats may lead to the
biological extinction of Croats," the Hercegovacka Banka's
spokesman, Milan Sutalo, said at a news conference in Zagreb.
In this context Sutalo explained that salaries, pensions and means
for the purchase of medicines and other supplies for the Mostar
hospital were paid via the bank, and since the blockade of the
bank's operations it has no longer been possible.
Members of the Hercegovacka bank's management board described this
financial institution as one of the most successful banks in
Bosnia. The audit carried out in the bank showed that it operated in
compliance with law.
An MP in the Croatian parliament, Ante Beljo, who organised today's
press conference of the bank's representative in the Croatian
capital, accused the top authorities in Zagreb of backing the
persecution of Bosnian Croats.
"The Republic of Croatia supports all what the international
community is doing in Bosnia," Beljo asserted.
One of lawyers in the team which represents the Hercegovacka bank's
share-holders and clients, Zeljko Olujic, announced they would
appeal on international institutions seeking compensation for the
damage done to the bank during last week's action of the NATO-led
Stabilisation Force. Olujic claimed that human rights and UN
charters were violated during the incursion of armed SFOR troops.
