BELGRADE, March 23 (Hina) - The highest officials of Yugoslavia and
the Bosnian Serb entity, Republika Srpska, met in Belgrade Friday
to discuss activities to be undertaken in the implementation of the
agreement on special and parallel relations between the two sides.
Yugoslavia's President Vojislav Kostunica and Republika Srpska
President Mirko Sarovic agreed that the two assemblies ratify the
aforementioned agreement, signed on March 5, as soon as possible.
Today's meeting was also attended by the two assemblies' speakers,
Dragoljub Micunovic and Dragan Kalinic, as well as Yugoslav Premier
Zoran Zizic and Republika Srpska Premier Mladen Ivanic.
After the meeting Kostunica's office issued a statement saying the
participants of the talks stressed "the strengthening of ties
between Yugoslavia and Republika Srpska on the basis of the
agreement is a great contribution to the implementation of the
Dayton Agreement and the affirmation of Bosnia-Herzegovina as a
country comprising of two entities."
The participants expressed "great concern about numerous
initiatives in the Bosnian Federation aimed at a review of the
Dayton Agreement and overall relations between the two entities and
among the three constitutive peoples in Bosnia".
The statement relays conclusions from the meeting that Croatia is
to blame, as well as "some international circles", for encouraging
such activities, and stressed this presents "a danger to peace and
stability in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the entire region".
Belgrade's and Banja Luka's representatives have now stated that,
in line with the Dayton peace accords and the Paris agreement,
Bosnia "should be protected both inside and outside of its
borders," to which both sides will contribute, the statement said.
It further said that a procedure was underway with the aim being the
signing of special agreements and contracts between Yugoslavia and
Republika Srpska. This is the first meeting between the two
officials since the signing of the agreement on special relations.
