WASHINGTON WASHINGTON, March 19 (Hina) - The 11th Croatian Days on the Hill, the annual, three-day gathering in Washington at which Croat Americans acquaint members of the Congress and the government with their views of some American-Croatian issues, began on Sunday. The participants were welcomed by Ambassador Ivan Grdesic, who spoke about Croatia's principal foreign policy goals and outlined the current state of affairs in the country. The Croat Americans objected to the proposed revocation of the Diaspora's right to vote and were surprised at the proposed abolishment of parliament's upper house. Speaking about Croats in Bosnia, they said the Bosnian Croats were in an unequal position in comparison to the neighbouring country's other two constituent peoples. The Croat Americans urged bringing the chief war criminals, Slobodan Milosevic, Radovan Karadzic, and Ratko Mladic, before UN's war crimes tribunal in The Hague as soon as possible. They believe the Croatian judiciary should prosecute crimes possibly committed during 1995's liberation operations Flash and Storm, and expect the official Zagreb to set the level to which the command liability for those crimes is acceptable, justified and legal. The president of the Croat Americans Association, Frank Brozovich, said the CAA would urge the United States to support Croatia's membership in NATO, its economic development, and position on accountability for war crimes. Over the next three-days, the participants of Croatian Days on the Hill will hold talks with some 70 members of both houses of the U.S. Congress. (hina) ha
