SPLIT, Feb 23 (Hina) - Officials of the Main Centre for the Protection of the Dignity of the Homeland Defence War told Friday's news conference in Split new protests, of which the first will be held in Rijeka, are planned, but failed
to say when. The town of Rijeka is the stage of inquiry proceedings against suspects of war crimes in Croatia's central town of Gospic in 1991. Among them is retired general Mirko Norac, whose case gave rise to mass protest rallies some ten days ago. The Centre's deputy presidents, Luka Podrug and Ivica Vladava Djovani, asserted general Norac would for certain have been extradited to the international war crimes tribunal in The Hague had there not been protests across Croatia, especially the one in Split. They requested Mirko Norac be released from custody. All Croatian generals are equal and we will not have any of them go to The Hague, they stressed.(hina) lml
