SITUATION IN CRO. UNBEARABLE, IDEAS ON EARLY ELECTIONS JUSTIFIED - HDZ

ZAGREB, Feb 9 (Hina) - The Croatian Democratic Union's (HDZ) Presidency at Friday's session said "the situation in Croatia is unbearable, to the point that the idea of early elections for parliament's House of Representatives is justified". The HDZ Presidency said in a statement "that mass protests of war veterans' associations are in line with the predominant will of the Croatian public, who believe that the attempt of arresting General Mirko Norac and announcements of new arrests are the incumbent authorities' attack on the Homeland Defence War and its heroes who defended Croatia from Serb aggression". The HDZ fully supports the protests and wants to be their stronghold, and calls upon its members to join them in a dignified manner and be the bearers of the political will of Croatia's public. HDZ officials believe that part of the incumbent authorities "openly continues the policy of stirring up discontent in the Croatian national being and is pushing the country into conflicts which will result in immeasurable consequences". The HDZ also believes that the time is running out for the current regime which, according to the HDZ, "demonstrated complete incapability to overcome economic and social problems, and the SDP (Social Democratic Party) as the main factor in the coalition conducts a policy of disregard for national interests and jeopardises national security".
