The court decided to keep him in detention and thus rejected the
appeal of Norac's lawyers against the custody.
The Rijeka court president, Slavko Petric, explained that the
defence lawyers' appeal was not accepted "owing to the gravity of
the act" cited in the request for the extension of an investigation
into the Gospic Group to Norac, suspected of having committed war
crimes in 1991 in the central Croatian town of Gospic.
Petric added that the court's ruling was not affected by the fact
that Norac failed to appear before the court for two weeks after he
had been summoned to Rijeka.
One of Norac's lawyers, Tomislav Sabljar, has previously announced
that they will lodge another appeal with the Constitutional Court
if the Rijeka court rejects this appal against his detention.
