While Croatia would like to become a member-state of NATO, regarding the Alliance as a guarantee for the European security, Russia maintains that "NATO is an aggressive organisation which shows its character during the aggression against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia", the Russian official claimed. He, however, said that every country had the right to decide on its own which block it would join. for successful bilateral cooperation in the parliamentary,
economic and other fields, Sabor Speaker Zlatko Tomcic and the
Russian parliament's lower house head, Genadij Seleznyov, assessed
in Zagreb on Thursday evening.
While Croatia would like to become a member-state of NATO,

Tomcic and Seleznyov told a joint press conference that Croatia and
Russia were very interested in the promotion of their
parliamentary, economic and cultural cooperation.
"Following these talks and the successful tour of the Russian
parliamentary delegation I am sure that the Russian Federation and
the Republic of Croatia will really enter a new field and time of new
cooperation," Tomcic said.
The Russian representative announced a meeting of inter-
governmental commission and a visit of Zagreb Mayor to Moscow for
one month.
He added he would forward an official invitation to Tomcic so that a
Croatian parliamentary delegation could visit Moscow.
The Russian parliamentary delegation paid a two-day official visit
to the Croatian capital and met President Stjepan Mesic, Premier
Ivica Racan, Mayor Milan Bandic and toured the national oil company
INA.
