A comparison of the survey results and Croatian Employment Bureau
(HZZ) data, which are based on administration sources, shows that
in this year's first half the Bureau's unemployment rate was
significantly higher than the unemployment rate from the survey
(23.3% as against 15.2 percent).
According to the survey, in the first half of this year there were
273,000 unemployed people, while the Bureau reported 405,000 job-
seekers.
Of the 405,000 persons registered with the HZZ, 171,000 or 42.2
percent do not meet international unemployment criteria.
According to the international methodology, 57.8 percent of all
people registered with the HZZ fall under the category unemployed,
18.5 percent are inactive (because they are not looking for jobs or
cannot accept the offered job in the next two weeks), and 13.1
percent are actually working and according to the survey fall under
the category employed.
According to the survey, of 273,000 unemployed persons, 85.6
percent are registered with the employment service, while the
remaining 14.4 percent were not interested in registering with the
employment service.
The structure of unemployed persons according to gender has not
changed significantly in relation to last year's first half - 47.9
percent are men and 52.1 percent are women.
The age structure, however, shows that 60.8 percent fall under the
most active category (age 25-49), slightly less than 30 percent are
young people (age 15-24) and the remaining 10 percent are older than
50 years of age.
About one fifth (19.5 percent) of all unemployed persons are ready
to move within their own county or to a neighbouring county if so
required by their new job. According to the survey, 4.3 percent are
ready to move abroad, of whom one half are under the age of 24.
A half of all surveyed job-seekers are not ready to move. They are,
however, willing to travel to work within their own or to a
neighbouring county on daily basis, while 23.7 percent wish to work
only in their place of residence.
As much as 68.3 percent of unemployed persons are ready to complete
additional training or undergo retraining in order to find a job.
About 47 percent of unemployed persons are ready to accept a minimal
net wage of between 2,000 and 3,000 kuna, while 36 percent expect a
wage higher than 3,000 kuna.
