Danijel Starman, a lawyer for 18 Slovene fishermen, the owners of
trawlers, said they expected the Constitutional Court to suspend in
the meantime the implementation of an agreement on fishing,
concluded last month by Croatian Premier Ivica Racan and his
Slovene counterpart Janez Drnovsek.
The reason for their demand is the illogical trawler-fishing
regime, given that the treaty stipulates that trawler-men are not
allowed to fish by night.
"This is the same as banning people from sunbathing in the daylight.
Owing to the agreement, Slovene trawler-men have to date lost
400,000 kuna (approximately 55,000 euros)," Starman said, adding
that Drnovsek had capitulated to Racan regarding the demarcation of
the border line on the sea.
