The talks focused on the importance of integration and cooperation
regarding national minorities, Ekeus said afterwards.
Mesic said minorities should not be assimilated or separated, but
that efforts should be invested towards joint cooperation, Ekeus
added.
The talks also addressed a constitutional bill on national
minorities which the Croatian parliament should debate in second
reading during the autumn.
Ekeus said his office had been acquainted with the bill, and added
he would discuss it further with Croatian officials while in
Croatia.
The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)
commissioner said he was interested in minorities' participation
in politics, their language and education.
