Robertson spoke to reporters after briefly visiting the Macedonian
capital of Skopje and talking to senior officials and leaders of
parties which signed the so-called Ohrid document.
Fair and free elections are crucial for Macedonia, Robertson said,
recommending that political parties focus on constituents' life
problems and safety in the pre-election campaign.
This is one country and one people, and a government representing
all citizens has to be elected, said the NATO official.
He added the whole international community would monitor the
Macedonian ballot, and called on all politicians to avoid calls for
the division and destabilisation of the country.
Robertson stated Macedonia had passed 95 percent of laws envisaged
by the Ohrid Agreement. These laws now have to be implemented so
that the people can trust those who signed them, he said.
