There is full agreement as to the strategy that has to be applied for
the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia
(ICTY) to successfully complete its task by 2008, Prosper told
reporters after meeting the Bosnian Presidency members.
It is absolutely clear the ICTY will not discontinue its activity
until the two most wanted war criminals end up at The Hague, he
added. The US will closely cooperate with NATO to arrest them, he
said.
The US government is willing to pay a US$5 million reward for
information which would lead to the arrest of Karadzic and Mladic,
and will ensure protection for persons offering useful
information, said the ambassador.
Bosnian Presidency chairman Beriz Belkic voiced confidence the
ICTY would be able to wrap up its work by 2008, by which time, he
said, the gravest crimes should have been dealt with.
"By then the domestic legislation, namely the region's states, must
be ready to take over the prosecuting of the remaining war crimes,"
said Belkic.
