The construction of the 13.6km-long stretch between Novi Marof and
Varazdin, about 80km north of Zagreb, cost 855 million kuna, or
approximately 114 million euros.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Public Works Minister Radimir
Cacic said this was the first highway fully completed during the
term of the present government.
Cacic said that the highway was important for the economic
development of the Varazdin area and Croatia as a whole.
Stanko Kovac, chairman of the board of managers of Croatian
Highways company, said the government's road construction
programme for this year, which envisaged construction of 150
kilometres of new highway, was fulfilled with the completion of the
Novi Marof-Varazdin section.
