Addressing a ceremony at the Faculty of Philology in Pristina,
Clinton stressed the need for tolerance, reconciliation, the rule
of law and respect for minority rights in Kosovo.
Speaking of the political future of Kosovo, Clinton said he
believed in self-determination and wanted the people of Kosovo to
be given the possibility of creating their own future. In this
context, he urged dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade.
After the ceremony, Clinton visited an American university in
Pristina which is due to open next month, and later travelled to the
US military camp "Bondsteel" near Urosevac to visit US troops.
Earlier in the day, the former US president met Kosovo president
Ibrahim Rugova, premier Bajram Rexepi, parliament speaker Nexdat
Daci, representatives of the Serb community and the head of the UN
administration, Harri Holkeri.
