The equipment, worth US$110,000, consists of protective clothing
intended for police instructors teaching combat and defence skills
and a computer simulator for the use of small arms. The system is the
first of its kind in the country.
Apart from being used for target practice, the system resembling
computer games simulates various risk situations in which police
have to use firearms.
According to US Ambassador to Croatia Ralph Frank, the donation to
the Croatian police will enable better physical and mental
readiness and assist with decision-making in critical situations.
Interior Minister Sime Lucin pointed out that one of this year's
main objectives was advanced training of police officers which has
quickly led to an improvement in police results, particularly in
dealing with drug trafficking and illegal migrations.
Croatia received the donation as part of an international aid
programme for training in criminal investigation granted by the
American Justice Department with the aim of assisting foreign
governments in developing and professionalising their police
services.
