ZAGREB, Sept 7 (Hina) - The chairwoman of the Croatian Radio and
Television (HRT) Council, Jadranka Kolarevic, has sent an open
letter to Parliament President Zlatko Tomcic, reminding him that
the new law on the HRT, adopted seven months ago, is not being
implemented, and urging the parliament to finally appoint the HRT
Programmes Council. #L#
The non-implementation of the law has resulted in the current state
of programmes and the prolonged "temporary situation" on the HRT,
Kolarevic says in the letter.
Under the new law, the incumbent HRT Council, which Kolarevic has
been chairing since the resignation of academician Vlatko
Silobrcic, should be replaced by an 11-member Programmes Council.
Following a public invitation of applications, the parliament's
committee on information, computerisation and the media on April 15
accepted all of the 145 submitted applications and forwarded them
to deputies' clubs for consideration. The parliament will vote
about the final list of candidates.
The chairwoman of the HRT Council says that the Council has not had
any influence on HRT programmes for seven months, objecting to the
self-will of the HRT's temporary management and editorial board.
Only the new Programmes Council can confirm or replace the
management and editors and affect the quality of radio and TV
programmes in the interest of the public, Kolarevic said.
