According to court data, the first half of this year saw an increase
of some 400 cases compared to last year. The court received 1,868
constitutional complaints, of which 307 referred to unreasonably
long proceedings, as well as some 200 proposals for the
establishment of the compliance of laws and other regulations with
the Constitution. The court solved 121 complaints about
unreasonably long proceedings.
Although last year was a record one according to the number of
received and solved cases, 3,224 cases have remained unsolved,
including those from previous years.
The number of constitutional complains has been continually
growing following changes to the Constitutional Law on the
Constitutional Court in 2001, which introduced compensation in
case of unreasonably long proceedings.
