According to the latest news agency reports, nearly 83,000 were confirmed dead by Thursday morning after huge tidal waves known as tsunami, triggered by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake, hit the coasts of South and Southeast Asia last Sunday. The Red Cross expressed fears that the death toll might exceed 100,000.
