"There are legal prerequisites for the improvement of their position as well as of their safety and security, primarily thanks to the agreement on the protection of ethnic minorities recently signed by Croatia and Serbia-Montenegro," Stanicic said last night after he wrapped up his working visit to Croat institutions in the northern city of Subotica.
The ambassador held talks with representatives of the Croatian National Council in that country, the Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina and the 'Bunjevacko Kolo' cultural society. At the Subotica talks he said that "Croatian diplomats in Serbia are obliged to do their best so as to help ethnic Croats to exercise the same rights which other minorities in the country have".
The leader of the Croatian National Council, Josip Ivanovic, told Hina that every visit of representatives of the Croatian Embassy "is a strong encouragement and moral support to the community".
During the visit, Ambassador Stanicic was accompanied by the newly-appointed Croatian Consul-General to Subotica, Davor Vidis.
