The event, held in Zagreb, pooled dignitaries of the Serb Orthodox Church, officials from the Croatian Science and Education Ministry and teachers.
'Prosvjeta' representatives voiced dissatisfaction with the space given to Serb tradition and culture in Croatian curricula.
Commenting on additional classes for those interested in learning the Serb language in schools, teachers spoke about problems such as pupils' busy regular schedule, a lack of classrooms and appropriate books, incompetent staff, as well as the problem of intolerant communities.
The representatives of the Serb Church announced that they would organise a classics-programme high school as of the start of the next school year, and that the school would be open to all interested.
The participants in the round table also discussed classes in the Serb language at the teachers' academy and at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, and the education of children in eastern Slavonia, Baranja and western Srijem.
