On 18 November 1991, members of Serb paramilitary units and the Yugoslav People's Army, entered the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar and executed local Croatians and other non-Serb population, Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks said at the start of today's sitting.
He said that more than 1,500 Croatian Homeland war soldiers and civilians were killed defending the town and over 20,000 people were expelled after Serbs occupied Vukovar. Some 3,000 people were detained in Serb concentration camps, Seks said.
The remains of 1,264 Homeland War solders were exhumed from mass graves in the Vukovar region. Of the total number ofthe exhumed bodies, 352 are yet to be identified,
The graves crime since World War Two was committed in Ovcara, Seks said.
Seks said parliament had adopted decisions binding the state bodies to ensure funds and implement measures aimed at helping the defence of Vukovar,
After observing a minute of silence, parliament started a debate on a draft state budget for 2005.
