The DruzbaAdria project provides for the transport of oil from Russia via several European countries to the oil terminal at Omisalj on the northern Adriatic island of Krk.
"Although we understand that some parts of the study may require discretion for the sake of protection of citizens' security, we request the right to information and the drawing up of a neutral counter-study, whether domestic or one drawn up in cooperation with European experts," reads a letter the Council of Franciscan Communities sent from its annual convention held in Split on 12-14 November.
The Council also requested the government and parliament to inform neighbouring Adriatic countries about the project and ask them for their opinion due to potentially harmful effects of ballast water and shipwrecks that could affect them as well.
The Council also requested that the study be made public and that a referendum on the project be organised in coastal counties.
