The ruling Croatian Democratic Union's (HDZ) National Council on Monday discussed preparations for the forthcoming presidential elections, set up an election headquarters, and decided that party spokesman Ratko Macek will be the campaign's leader, while former Defence Ministry spokesman Mate Radeljic will be campaign spokesman.
Macek told the press the elections would be called within the constitutional deadline, most likely in late November so that candidates could collect signatures and have their candidacies verified in due time.
Macek said the HDZ's campaign would be "affirmative, dynamic and fast," and that it would convince constituents to vote for the HDZ presidential candidate, Jadranka Kosor.
Speaking of activities preceding the election campaign, Macek said the HDZ would hold mini-assemblies in 10 constituencies for the purpose of mobilising the party's members.
