SLUNJ, Nov 3 (Hina) - Police in the central Croatian town of Slunj
(some 80 kilometres south of Zagreb) on Tuesday evening removed a plaque
commemorating Jure Francetic, set up by as yet unknown persons at the same
location from where a previous memorial plaque honouring the Ustasha officer
was removed in line with the Croatian government decision of August 27,
2004.The plaque, which reads "To Croatian Knight Jure Francetic, Otocac, July
2, 1912", was removed in line with a decision by the Ministry for
Environmental Protection, Zoning and Construction, Karlovac County police
department spokesman Tomislav Kotic said.
The police are collecting information on the perpetrators and the time
when the plaque was erected, Kotic said.
Government spokesman Ratko Macek yesterday said that the government most
strongly condemned the setting up of the memorial plaque.
