"Since I have been nominated by citizens and supported by some parties, I will have a committee of citizens for the election of Stjepan Mesic," the president said in response to a journalist's question about the make-up of his election team.
Mesic said that his election campaign this year would be organised in a slightly different fashion than four years ago when he had been nominated by the Croatian People's Party (HNS).
He added that he would launch his campaign a month before the first round of the presidential election, which he said would most probably take place on January 2, 2005.
A date of the presidential election has not been set yet. Mesic's term expires on February 18 next year, and the Constitution stipulates that a presidential election must be held at least 30 days and not more than 60 days before the expiry of the incumbent president's term.
