BELGRADE, Aug 30 (Hina) - The new head of the UN Mission in Kosovo,
Soeren Jessen-Petersen, asked of Serbia on Monday to encourage Kosovo Serbs to
go to the polls at the parliamentary election in October. Jessen-Petersen also
demanded of Serbia to withdrawn an invitation for the boycott of the
elections. It is absolutely crucial for a multiethnic Kosovo that Kosovo Serbs be
given a chance to participate in the Kosovo elections, Jessen-Petersen .told a
news conference.
The authorities in Belgrade called on Kosovo Serbs last month to boycott
the elections in Kosovo scheduled for October 23, unless their security is
guaranteed by the adoption of the decentralisation plan.
Jessen-Petersen promissed the plan would be considered.
The international community and the contact group are ready to five
Belgrade a chance to explain its plan, the UN officials said.
