Libra issued a press release on Tuesday saying that the restoration of the reputation of historically condemned and rejected Nazi-Fascist anti-heroes brings disgrace on democratic Croatia and damages the country's European ambitions and prospects.
"Although some ruling party and state officials and the local bishop have distanced themselves, no efficient measures have yet been taken to remove this and similar symbols, which leads to the escalation of retrograde ideas and attempts to rehabilitate the Ustashas, which in turn would represent a revision of the historic victory of anti-Fascism in Croatia and Europe," the press release read.
Libra believes that responsibility for such detrimental political developments lies with the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party, the government and the Catholic Church.
The appeal for the renewal of Communist-era trials, including the trial of Mile Budak, is detrimental to Croatian national interests, and its sole purpose is to score cheap political points for its signatories, Libra said.
The party maintains that a great majority of citizens is opposed to attempts at downplaying Fascist crimes and that Croatian scientific circles and the entire public know how to value the most difficult periods of national history.
