ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic has said that the privatisation of the Suncani Hvar hotel company which the government is planning to carry out in partnership with the private fund Quaestus, must be
transparent and in compliance with law. The problem of companies privatised so far has been a lack of transparency in this process, Mesic said during his regular meeting with citizens on Saturday morning.

"If the offer is correct and all criteria are met in line with the
law, there is no reason for carrying out privatisation 'behind the
closed doors', particularly in the light of the fact that a previous
attempt to privatise Suncani Hvar failed," Mesic said.
The head of state supported the view of Parliament President Vladimir
Seks and Justice Minister Vesna Skare Ozbolt that it was necessary to
change the law on the Office for the Prevention of Corruption and
Organised Crime (USKOK) in order to expand its jurisdiction.
Asked to comment on the Bosnian authorities' position that his
statement on completing negotiations on the seaport of Ploce by the
end of this year was made for the sake of diplomacy and that Croatia
was obstructing the agreement, the Croatian president said that the
present situation could not be blamed only on one side.
"I would not like to blame either Bosnian or Croatian side, but I
believe that there has been no sufficient will on either side to solve
the issue," he added.
A solution to the issue of the use of the southern Croatian seaport of
Ploce will be on the agenda of the Croatian-Bosnian Inter-State
Council, which is to meet next week.
