According to a statement it issued on Saturday afternoon, the company
fully supported Bago and believed that charges were groundless,
although it had not yet been given official information on the case.
"Our experience from the work with Mr. Bago bears witness to his
professionalism, business ethnics and dignity and we express our full
support to him, the statement read.
Former foreign minister Mate Granic and Koncar CEO Darinko Bago,
suspected by the Office for the Prevention of Corruption and Organised
Crime (USKOK) of bribery, remained in custody for 48 hours according
to a decision of Zagreb County Court investigating judge Jadranka
Mandusic who interviewed them on Friday evening.
"Our clients stated their defence in detail, refuting all the
accusations. They feel these are staged proceedings," Bago's attorney
Ante Madunic and Granic's attorney Kresimir Vilajtovic told reporters
after their clients' interview with the judge.
Asked who was behind the staged proceedings, Vilajtovic declined to
answer, while Madunic resolutely named Velimir Delonga, former
director of the Koncar trgovine i zastupstva company.
Madunic said Delonga had reported Granic and Bago to USKOK out of
revenge.
