The conclusion of this agreement is the first step towards the
strengthening of economic cooperation between the two countries and
the increasing of bilateral trade, the two ministers said.
Minister Makki said Oman appreciated Croatian know-how in the sector
of the production of electrical appliances, the chemical industry and
Croatia's experience in promoting tourism. He added that bilateral
cooperation could also be enhanced in shipbuilding and fisheries.
Makki said that the agreement would encourage Omani businessmen to
look into possibilities of investments and joint ventures in Croatia.
The Croatian minister said the agreement would strengthen bilateral
relations, and announced that a bilateral agreement on double taxation
avoidance would be prepared in the near future.
Vukelic said today's talks also focused on Croatia's plan to open a
business office in one of the Gulf countries in order to promote its
economic diplomacy in the region.
Trade between Croatia and Oman totalled a mere US323,300 in 2003,
with Croatian exports accounting for as much as 99 percent of the
amount.
