has said that while everybody is congratulating the countries which
joined the European Union on Saturday, "Croatia, unfortunately,
although deserving, isn't among them".#L#
Speaking at an event marking International Labour Day in Ronjgi, a
holiday resort near the northern Adriatic city of Rijeka, Linic said
Croatia's authorities before 2000 had been unable to turn the people's
labour into a success, thus distancing Croatia from Europe, but that
the 2000-3 coalition government, led by the SDP, had brought Croatia
politically closer to Europe and put labour to the forefront.
Linic went on to say that the previous government had been labelled
traitorous for honouring the Hague war crimes tribunal's decisions and
for having to establish market economy.
Labour Day in Ronjgi was celebrated as part of SDP Days, traditionally
held in early May. Hundreds of people attended. The SDP distributed
about 4,000 bean meals.
