The US Vice-Admiral and the commander of the Croatian Navy,
Rear-Admiral Zdravko Kardum held talks on cooperation.
Vice-Admiral Ulrich told a news conference in the Lora port that this
visit was the continuation of successful cooperation between the two
navies with the aim of promoting partnership, friendship and
understanding to ensure peace, progress, security and the fight
against terrorism.
The Croatian Navy is an important regional partner of the US Navy's
Sixth Fleet, and they have together carried out 20 exercises since
2000.
The American also praised the Croatian Army for its experience in
protection of a long, indented coast with many islands, and this would
be its key role in NATO.
Kardum added that the Croatian Navy was small but capable of
contributing to efforts aimed at countering terrorism.
He also announced a joint military exercise of the United States with
Croatia, Albania and Macedonia, the countries which NATO would like to
help in their efforts to join the alliance as soon as possible. The
manoeuvres called 'Adriatic Freedex' will be held in September at the
end of the tourist season, Kardum added.
