Tuefel congratulated Croatia on receiving a positive opinion from the
European Commission about its EU membership application, Mastruko
said.
Mesic and Tuefel discussed possibilities of economic and other forms
of cooperation between Croatia and Baden-Wuerttenberg, and the
Croatian president invited his host to visit Croatia "to encourage
economic cooperation at political level", Mastruko said.
About 120,000 Croats live in Baden-Wuerttenberg, and this federal
state has supported Croatia's European aspirations from the outset.
After the meeting, Mesic attended the opening of the exhibition "Three
Scripts - Three Languages", a joint project by the Croatian Ministry
of Culture and the National and University Library.
The exhibition was described as the most comprehensive presentation of
Croatian texts written in Glagolitic, Croatian Cyrillic and Latin
scripts from the early Middle Ages to the 20th century. The project
was launched in 1999 and the first exhibition was staged in Berlin
from April to June 2002.
