MacShane and Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova this morning visited the
Serb Orthodox church in Pristina which was damaged during ethnic riots
in March.
Rugova said that all religious buildings in Kosovo were part of
Kosovo's tradition and the traditions of the peoples living there and
that measures had been taken to reconstruct those which were destroyed
or damaged during the riots as soon as possible.
MacShane said the West wanted the Serbs and Albanians to respect
European democratic principles and coexistence, adding that Europe was
the future of both Kosovo and Serbia and other countries in the
region.
The British minister today also met Kosovo Parliament President Nexhat
Daci and Albanian and Serb political representatives. Yesterday he
held talks with UN Civil Administrator Harri Holkeri.
