ZAGREB, April 17 (Hina) - The leader of the Islamic community in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mustafa Efendi Ceric, has called on Muslims in
that country to buy agricultural products made in Bosnia-Herzegovina
and thus support the local economy.#L#
The call of Reis Ceric would not be so much interesting if his appeal
was not a part of the main message which the Islamic community's head
gives to the Islamic faithful every Friday during the central prayer
said in 'Begova' Mosque in Sarajevo.
According to Saturday's issues of the Sarajevo-based press, yesterday
Ceric told the gathered believers that three eminent Bosniak (Bosnian
Muslim) businessmen had recently asked him to use his authority and
call on people to start thinking how much everybody can contribute to
the revival of the local economy.
"How long we as buyers will ask for goods imported from abroad and
thus sustain the poverty of our country and society," the dignitary
said in his message on Friday, adding that it was high time Muslims
began reconsidering some of their stands.
"Those who cannot provide food and clothing in their homeland or
defend it, cannot say that they have their own homeland. Therefore we
should buy our products as this is a way to show to us and others that
we have our homeland and that we love it," he went on to say.
A campaign for buying agricultural produce and other goods
manufactured in Bosnia has been recently launched by several
successful companies. Ceric joined in the campaign when Bosnian
farmers were staging rallies protesting against the enforcement of
free trade agreements Sarajevo concluded with neighbouring countries.
