Tuesday dismissed speculation about the next local elections being
held ahead of schedule, stating that the government was preparing a

heads.#L#
Speculation about early local elections is unfounded, the government
intends to call local elections in May next year as envisaged by law,
Sanader told reporters after meeting representatives of local
administration.
County prefects have proposed that the elections be held in April to
avoid constituting county, municipal and local councils during the
tourist season, he said.
Primorje-Gorski Kotar County prefect Zlatko Komadina said the prefects
welcomed the government's clear stand regarding the election date and
added that direct elections were in the function of further
decentralisation of the state.
