BELGRADE, April 2 (Hina) - The state will not fund the defence of
former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic before the war crimes
tribunal in The Hague nor the costs of his family nor others indicted
by the U.N. tribunal who became rich under the former regime, Serbia's
Finance Minister Mladjan Dinkic said on Friday.#L#
He told reporters that even though a law was adopted earlier this week
on the rights of indictees in the tribunal's custody and their
families, the Finance Ministry would adopt a decree elaborating on the
law's application and establishing criteria for being granted money
from the state budget.
Only those whose pays are below the Serbian average will be able to
apply, Dinkic said, adding that Milosevic and his family definitely
did not qualify.
The chairman of the main committee of Milosevic's Socialist Party of
Serbia, Ivica Dacic, described Dinkic's statement for Radio B92 today
as "political and promotional" and said it did not warrant further
comment.
