PULA, March 15 (Hina) - Archaeologists of the Istria Museum of
Archaeology in Pula on Monday presented the head of an ancient statue
discovered last week during work on a hotel near Pula's ancient
forum.#L#
Alka Starac and Marko Uhac said the archaeological value of the find
surpassed its modest dimensions. The 11 cm tall white Greek marble
head was part of a sculpture tall about 90 cm which was set in a
public facility around the forum. It dates back to between the first
and third centuries AD.
Because of its dimensions it represents a rarity, being unusually
small for the time it was made in, said Starac.
The head is quite damaged and will be shown to the public after
analysis and reconstruction.
