Commenting on statements about a general strike which was announced
for Monday and this morning's one-hour warning strike, Zagreb Mayor
Vlasta Pavic told a news conference on Wednesday that the local
authorities had given the green light to their negotiating team to
propose arbitration to the trade unions, instead of the continuation
of unpromising negotiations in the coming days.
Pavic does not see any reason why the unions should not accept this
proposal, which would also mean their abandoning the plan for the
general strike.
