"Unfortunately the HDZ has become a hostage of the SDSS, and the Serb
national minority has been given preferential treatment in relation to
other minorities," Pero Coric told a news conference in the eastern
city of Vukovar on Monday. He pointed to Saturday's formation of
Osijek-Baranja County authorities to corroborate his statement.
Another local HSP leader, Nikola Toth-Feniks, said that "as the result
of the HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union) policy, (General Mirko) Norac
is in prison, (General Ante) Gotovina on the run, while the amnestied
Chetniks have seats in the Croatian parliament".
"On the other hand, many other national minorities such as Slovaks,
Hungarians, Ruthenians and Ukrainians, who shared the same destiny
with us as refugees, are today in an inferior position," Toth said
adding that while Serbs in Croatia were being given more power, Croats
in Vojvodina were being exposed to greater-scale persecutions.
