"Nobody in this country has the right to waive one half of the
knowledge and competence which women account for," Opacic said at a
news conference on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Warning about women being underpaid, she cited data from the
Employment Bureau which show that in the past two months women have
accounted for 58 percent of the unemployed, which she said was the
share of women in the unemployment structure of 15 years ago.
Men in Croatia earn 3,000 kuna on average, while women earn 2,228
kuna, Opacic said, adding that 90 percent of less paid jobs are held
by women.
