The director of the USAID mission in Croatia, William Jeffers, told a
press conference in Zagreb on Friday that the pension reform in
Croatia was very successful and that it attracted attention from
countries such as Switzerland, Sweden, France, Italy and China, which
were sending their people to learn from Croatia's experience.
The pension reform should be used for the development of capital
markets and encourage privatisation, Jeffers said.
Jeffers pointed out that the USAID was involved in several projects in
Croatia relating to small and medium-sized businesses, agriculture and
civil society. He added that US168 million had been invested in the
country through various projects, or around 30 million a year.
HAGENA director Dragan Kovacevic said that the pension reform was "a
job well done". "Neighbouring countries are coming here to learn from
us, and we are about to sign several cooperation agreements under
which Croatia will provide consulting services," he added.
"The pension system is fully stable and requires only a few more
technical adjustments," Kovacevic said.
